Robert Half Executive Search has been exclusively retained to identify the next Divisional Controller for a division of an ASX listed services provider.

With a turnover of approximately $500M, the business unit has ambitions to achieve revenues of $1Bn within the next ten years.


The Role


Following a recent promotion, there is a need to appoint a new Divisional Controller to take over the financial stewardship of the business unit. The position will require the successful applicant to be a genuine people person and adopt the 'people first' values of the business. Coupled with that, the successful applicant will foster a culture of continuous improvement in the finance function of more than thirty staff.


The role will have primary day-to-day responsibility for overseeing, managing and controlling all financial-related activities and services, including direct responsibility for billings, accounting, receivables, budgeting, forecasting and analysis.


The role will help drive the direction of the business and be tasked with ensuring continued financial excellence of the company as well as striving to improve day-to-day processes for long-term sustainability and growth.


Overarching Responsibilities:



  • Financial Accounting: Oversee and review work from the financial accounting team while upskilling staff in the pursuit of their own career aspirations.

  • Leadership & Management: Support the Group CEO and CFO of the Australian business to develop and foster a performance driven environment while displaying empathy and humility. This includes the ability to listen and learn while also managing upwards effectively. Strong management skills are paramount with the ability to influence the team while managing stakeholders across the business.

  • Operational Excellence: Drive productivity, innovation and improvement across the business through a 'hands-on' approach. Focus on improving areas such as the margins for services, underlying financial processes and exhibiting sound discipline will be essential.

  • Ad-Hoc Tasks: Assist in projects including automation, as well as collaborating with head office, senior management and suppliers where required, such as business improvement projects.


Your Profile


Ideally, CA qualified with strong leadership skills, your clear communication skills and ability to lead a diverse team will be paramount to your success in this role. Substantial financial accounting experience, preferably with time early in your career spent in an audit environment with a reputable chartered firm, will hold you in good stead. Individuals with Medical, Hospital or Pharmaceutical industry exposure will be highly regarded, although this is by no means essential.


This opportunity offers a diverse slate of responsibilities both at the micro and macro level and as such a passion for 'understanding the detail' and an aptitude for context shifting will be essential. The success of this position will be determined by the extent to which the appointed individual can multitask competing priorities, manage a corporate structure with diverse personalities and blend strong financial accounting knowledge with operational involvement. Projects will form a large part of this role, in tandem with day-to-day tasks.
