Chief Technology Officer


Robert Half Executive Search has been exclusively retained to identify a Chief Technology Officer for an exciting disruptive Sydney based tech firm. This is an exciting opportunity to partner with a dynamic CEO in a business which is about to embark on its next stage of evolution. You will be instrumental in defining the strategy and executing on delivering this technology platform to market.

Due to the ongoing expansion of the organisation and significant growth agenda, there is a need for a commercially astute individual with experience in the creation and/or evolution of a data-driven, industry-defining technology product. This individual will take ownership of this business and partner closely in strategy with the Group CEO, Board and Shareholders.


This individual will become one of the most pivotal members of the leadership team and will be critical to the successful development and implementation of a Board-approved one-platform technology strategy for the company that no other firm will be able to replicate.


The Role


The overarching focus will be to define a clearly articulated global strategy for the business to position the firm as a market-leading technology player in its industry.


Working closely with the Platform Development Team of 15+ in systems architecture and DevOps, this individual will guide the continuous development and improvement of the firm's proprietary digitally connected one-platform ecosystem.


This individual will be instrumental to the future success of this business by driving growth in an agile and creative engineering culture, balancing high-quality outputs at pace with building and inspiring a high-performing team.


This CTO role offers a varied slate of responsibilities both at the micro and macro level as well as a high degree of autonomy and as such a passion for 'understanding the detail' will be essential. The success of this individual will lie in their ability to effectively partner with the Group CEO and Board on strategy to bridge the gap between the development and operations teams.


Your Profile


Currently, in a senior leadership position within a SaaS/PaaS technology company, the successful candidate will likely have amassed significant experience within the tech space.


The successful candidate will be able to clearly articulate their hands-on involvement in the building of a successful revenue-generating B2C or B2B technology platform in prior roles. Furthermore, the successful individual should be able to demonstrate the role that this technology platform played in the overall success of the business through a subsequent liquidity event such as a trade sale, capital raise, merger or successful listing of the business, though these are by no means considered to be the only measures of success.


With a strong focus on effective leadership, this individual will have a proven track record of successfully building and leading high-performing and cohesive teams that are committed to achieving a common goal.


Functional Competencies Sought



  • Sound technical software/platform development background

  • Demonstrated experience of effectively working in large data environments

  • Experience of AI and Machine Learning environments is advantageous

  • Experience of commercial platform strategy creation and successfully taking it to market.

  • Demonstrated understanding of payments systems, privacy legislation and security protocols
