Located 12 kilometres from Perth CBD, Perth Airport is both a domestic and international airport located in the suburb of Perth Airport, next to the suburbs of Belmont and Redcliffe. Its local government areas are the City of Belmont, the City of Swan and the Shire of Kalamunda.
As expected for an airport suburb, public transport to the area is frequent and efficient. Buses run regularly from the city and other suburbs and whilst the area isn’t currently serviced by rail, the construction of a rail link is due to begin in 2016. The area can be accessed by car from the CBD via the Great Eastern Highway and Brearley Avenue or Tonkin Highway.
The airport is currently undergoing a massive redevelopment as part of the 2014 Airport Master Plan which will consolidate all international and domestic operations into the T1 international terminal area upon completion in 2020.
In addition to this, there will be the construction of a new International Pier, a new domestic terminal, construction of a new runway, multi-storey car parks and office space and the expansion of T2. Surrounding airport roads will also be upgraded significantly.
There are further plans to redevelop the airport further as part of the 2024 Airport Master Plan, in which it has been proposed that both the domestic and international terminals will be consolidated into a single terminal on the south-eastern side of the airfield.
Located by fourth busiest airport in Australia, Perth Airport as a suburb is a popular place to set up a home for those who work at the airport or are part of its major redevelopment plan. That said, it’s easy access to the CBD make it a sensible option for those who work in the city. Perth Airport’s neighbouring suburbs offer fantastic amenities and educational facilities, making this an ideal location for families.
